Reinforcing The Positive
When it comes to Autism or any special needs disorder sometimes the inappropriate behaviors are obvious. The behaviors are so overwhelming at times that it becomes " The Daily Norm". But what about the progress in the positive behaviors. When your child ties his or her shoes, or ask without being prompted or simply makes a cognitive connection reinforce the positive with an outburst of good job, good talking, a clap, a hug, a reward of their favorite food or shopping trip. Reinforcing the positive is so important for all parties involved. It can make a huge difference and bring on the biggest smile which brings on another smile which leads to another milestone. Share the positive with family, friends and at playgroups. Reinforcing the positive produces successful results.
